8th Grade Good-bye Shirts...
8th graders created these pieces of art on their last art class. The kids stenciled their own initial on each and every t-shirt. Hopefully, once dry they will sign each one.
Jackson Pollack Day.
I apologize for any paint splatters that made it on to clothing but it really was fun to get messy and create art inspired by artist Jackson Pollack. The class was split whether this is art or not but the process is worth learning about Pollack.
Color Wheels...
8th graders spent a class mixing their own colors out of just RED, BLUE and YELLOW (the primary colors). The objective was to use class time wisely enough to mix 12 colors: secondary (orange, purple and green) and then one in the middle of each primary and secondary. Out of these paint samples they cut out their own shapes to form the color wheel. As you can see, Loren's guitars rocked.
8th graders learned about "Op Art" or Optical Art made popular in the 60's. We discussed artists like Escher whose art deceived the viewer with optical illusions. They tried this out with black and white repeated stripes in a spider web design that sometimes seemed to pop off the page. -- Nov. '12
8th graders learned about Italian artist Modigliani and created their own stretched-out portraits in Oil Pastel. -Sept. '12
