Paper Collage Lions...
Godzillas are Invading the City!!
ROBOTS!!
My favorite art pieces EVER! 2nd graders stamped black LINES using the edges of cardboard dipped in paint. They turned the lines into geometric SHAPES. On the following class they painted those shapes in and were encouraged to mix their unique colors. The result were these amazing, bold creations!
Hauling home the Christmas tree...
I love having this class full of boys! Whenever there is free art time they are drawing awesome vehicles - so I wanted to think of an art project where they could help inspired the entire class in making their vehicle that will haul their Christmas tree home. It makes me happy to just to look at these fun paper collages.
Abstract Faces inspired by Paul Klee...
The 2nd graders learned about artist Paul Klee ("Clay") and created these cool pieces modeled after his work "Senecio". They colored in oil pastel and then painted over the entire piece with red...scraping most of the red off after it dried mimicking some of the work he painted on different materials like fabric.
Cezanne's Apples...in oil pastel and watercolor!
We covered the tables in apples and practiced sketching...really being observers who drew what we see - not just what we think an apple should look like. The kids added color with oil pastel, noticing all the color details and imperfections and used watercolor for the background.
Crosses Made out of Negative Space with Oil Pastel.
More Robots!!
2nd graders learn about POSITIVE & NEGATIVE space in art -
Mrs. Burns' class learned about positive and negative spaces in art by creating these cool, graphic art pieces. They created the background using crayon resist and layered it with a subject of their choice that was made once cut from black paper and then made from the space left behind. Both times the subject = the positive part of their art and the background = negative even though that subject may be black or colored.
Wacky Pumpkins have invaded Mrs. Burns' Room!
The 2nd graders created these AWESOME pumpkin collages with paint and paper. They were encouraged to paint their pumpkins with variations of orange that they built out of red and yellow. We talked about how those shifts from yellowish-orange to reddish-orange can make art much more interesting and how those shifts happen in real life depending on how the light is shining on it.
2nd grade study of SHAPE and LINE - hands!
As we create fun projects in the art room, we also learn about the Elements of Design: Line, Shape, Texture, Color, Value, Space, etc.... Mrs. Burns' class practiced Shape (the outline of the hand), Line (the patterns they drew in black pen), Pattern (inventing different ways to repeat those lines), Value (making sure some areas of their hand looked darker than others). Lastly they mounted them on a bright paper collage background of Color.
